Premier League giants Manchester United seemingly have an irresistible urge to offload as many of their defenders as possible in the January transfer window, and Italian right back Matteo Darmian has reportedly joined England international Luke Shaw on Jose Mourinho’s list of unwanted fullbacks, according to the Express.

Darmian joined Manchester United back in 2015 for a fee of £12m, but the Italy international has failed to live up to the reputation he earned through good his good form for previous club Torino. He has made just three appearances in the Premier League this season, and only featured 18 times in last season’s campaign.

Mourinho has faced somewhat of a positional dilemma when it comes to the right back as club captain Antonio Valencia is the preferred option on the right hand side of defence, and Darmian has failed to convince as a right back despite the struggles of club mate Luke Shaw.

The defender’s poor form has done little damage to his reputation however as three different Italian clubs have reportedly registered an interest in stealing Darmian away from Manchester. Juventus are the current favourites, though their title rivals Napoli and Roma aren’t close behind.

If the fullback can rediscover some of the form he showed when at Torino then a move back to his home nation could be the perfect way to reinvigorate his career.
